Today we reviewed for the oceans test tomorrow. The review guide can be signed by a parent or guardian for 5 points extra credit.
Due to the snow day, students will have until Friday at the end of their class period to turn in their essay. It may be turned in by email, submission through Office 365, typed and printed, or handwritten. There will also be a notebook check tomorrow after the test. I am running out of tissues and pencils. I told the students they could earn REP points for contributing to our class for showing effort and pride. 1 pencil=1 point, 1 small tissue box = 5 points, 1 large tissue box = 10 points (Limit 20 points). I was absent today. Students worked on the 5 paragraph essay with the sub. Essay due tomorrow and the oceans test is Thursday.
Today we worked on the 5 paragraph essay, which is due on Tuesday. Students are exploring the answer to the question, "How do ocean currents effect weather, resources, and colonization?"
Today we finished the notes on waves and tides. We also began a writing assignment. The writing assignment will be due at the end of class on Tuesday. Students will be writing a 5 paragraph essay answering the question "How to ocean currents effect weather, resources, and colonization?" Classes 1-3 will need to use a minimum of 3 resources and class 4 will need a minimum of 5 resources, 2 of which they need to find at home.

We also watched Bill Nye on "El Nino".
Today we completed a graph which showed us the distribution of ocean surface salinity. Many times students don't understand how science and math work together. Today was a perfect example of the two combined!
Today we did a lab on salinity. Students were able to see that salt water sinks and freshwater rises.
Currents worksheet for homework if not finished last night. Also, for classes 1-3, students need to answer the question "How do oceanographers measure the different densities out in the open ocean? Homeroom students need to return signed Quarter 2 report card envelopes (still 15 missing). |
